
MARIA CHABOUNIA - Soprano
In the 2025/2026 season, Maria Chabounia will sing the role of Erste Blumenmädchen in a new production of Parsifal at Opera Vlaanderen and during the Wiener Festwochen at the Theater an der Wien. She will also make her Japan debut as Adele at the New National Theatre in Tokyo.
In recent seasons, Maria Chabounia has performed as Adele in Die Fledermaus
(Opera Vlaanderen), Lisa in La Sonnambula (Gärtnerplatztheater),
Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro (Malmö Opera), and Musetta in La Bohème (Puccini Festival Torre del Lago and Opera Vlaanderen).
Chabounia has participated in the Accademia Rossiniana and performed the role of Madama Cortese in Il viaggio a Reims at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. She also appeared at Malmö Opera as Gilda in a new production of Rigoletto directed by Kasper Holten.
At the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus, she sang the roles of Gilda and Marfa in The Tsar’s Bride. At the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, she made her debut in the title role of Katze Ivanka, created by Vera Nemirova and Massimiliano Matesic.
Her roles at the Hamburg Staatsoper included Eurydice in Telemann’s Orpheus,
Clorinda in La Cenerentola, Papagena, and Barbarina.
She has worked with conductors such as Alexander Joel, Karen Kamensek,
Ottavio Dantone, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, and Renato Palumbo.
Maria Chabounia is a prizewinner of numerous competitions, including the Debut Competition 2014 in Weikersheim (2nd prize), the Minsk Opera Competition 2015 (1st prize), the Opera de Marseille Competition 2018 (Best French Aria Interpretation and Audience Prize), and the Marmande Competition 2015 (Special Jury Prize).
Born in 1992 in Minsk, she began her musical studies as a pianist at the age of
five. In 2016, she graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of Music. She
has participated in masterclasses with Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Mietta Siegele, and
Alfonso Antoniozzi.
